Framing Ideas for Original Art On Paper
I love framing art almost as much as I love making it! You can be so creative and there is such a variety of options. I have set out a few options below that would suit artwork that has been created on paper, like the paintings in my recent Floral Fancies Collection. I have included some affiliate links in this post which will take you to all the products you need to create these framing looks at home!
A deep double mount:
Framing your painting with a deep double mount adds a really nice dimension to the way the painting is displayed. The deep mount can make it a real statement piece and I particularly like this style for a painting that is being hung on its own. For this example I have displayed the painting so that the lovely textured edges are still on show. This style would also look equally nice with the edges covered by the double mount. If you frame your painting in this way, be sure to use acid free tape and acid free mount board, so as not to damage the painting over time.
Mounted in a ‘Floating’ style:
Now I don’t actually know the technical term for framing your painting in this way, so don’t quote me on this! For this style I have fixed the painting to the mount board so that you still get the effect of a wide border, but this time it is ‘behind’ the painting. this also allows the lovely textured edges of the painting to show, which I love. If you frame your painting in this way, be sure to use acid free double sided tape and acid free mount board, so as not to damage the painting over time.
A Floating Glass Frame:
I think this is a particularly magical way of framing your paintings. This allows the colour of your walls to show through the glass when it is hung. You can also get even more creative and add elements inside the frame such as dried petals - see my instagram reel for an example of what this can look like.
Where to get your frames:
You can visit a professional framer (such a fun experience!) or you can purchase really good quality frames online (direct links can be found above). I would recommend going for a frame that has a glass window, not Perspex as that can scratch very easily and has less clarity. If you are choosing a style that involves a mount of any sort, ALWAYS go for an acid free mount board and acid free tape (or acid free double sided tape if needed), as this will ensure the longevity of the artwork.
You can also experiment with different coloured mounts and frames - the examples I have shown here are all with white and gold, but there are ENDLESS options and these artworks will suit many styles and colours - so go get creative and have fun framing!
